Sweet Briar College JYF in Paris
The oldest coeducational intercollegiate study abroad program in Paris!

JYF is not just any study abroad program in Paris - we are the oldest coeducation intercollegiate program! Started by the University of Delaware in 1923 and at Sweet Briar since 1948, we have been sending generations of undergraduates to Paris for a French immersion experience and have a rich history of academic excellence. We've learned a lot from 68 years of study abroad, and it shows in the academic opportunities available to our students, the long established relationships we have with host families, and in the connections we've established throughout the city.

Our mission is to enable students to develop a deeper understanding of the world and a broader perspective on their own country. We aim to provide an academic experience that increases their competency in the French language, while allowing them to elect courses that fit their academic goals. If they qualify for a course and the opportunity exists, we work with them to make it happen.

Fall Semester Orientation
Fall semester begins with a two-week orientation outside of Paris in the city of Tours that prepares students for academic life in France. Orientation includes cultural experiences and excursions to museums and historical landmarks in the Loire Valley, and provides practical knowledge of the language so students can readily use it in their studies.

Academics
Students take a combination of JYF courses (those offered to and designed exclusively for students on the program), French university courses through three Paris universities of the Sorbonne (III, IV, and VII), the Catholic Institut, and other institutions of higher learning. All courses are taught in French..

Students pursuing degrees in liberal arts, sciences, social sciences, and humanities may take courses within their respective fields while studying abroad with JYF, since the universities in Paris offer an extensive variety of courses. JYF students are registered as regular university students and do the same work as their French counterparts.

Volunteering & Internships
In addition to academics, JYF offers volunteer opportunities as a teaching assistant in classrooms, and for-credit internships (spring semester only).

Excursions & Cultural Focus
JYF organizes one weekend trip per semester outside of Paris, and several day excursions to places of cultural interest in and around Paris.

Living Arrangements
Students live with a carefully selected host family in Paris.
